Consultation Meeting for the 5th Anniversary of Laos’ WTO Membership took place on 19 February 2018, at Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The event was chaired by H.E. Mrs. Khemmani Pholsena, Minister of Industry and Commerce, and the participants from government sector and business sector for more than 100 people attended to the said meeting.

The objective of the meeting is to hold the discussion, between government sector and business sector, on creating business environment favorable for Laos’ enterprises to international markets, which is related to international trade commitment, particular in respect of trade facilitation, the progress of the National Single Windows on Customs Declarations, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) and measurement standards.

Throughout five years of being a WTO’s member, Lao PDR focuses on implementing its commitment in order to create business environment favorable for Laos’ enterprises and to take advantage of global economic integration as the first priority for national social-economic development of Lao PDR.

Also, at the meeting there were reported on the progress of trade negotiations in the scope of WTO, particularly in the negotiations over Doha Development Agenda and the result of the Eleventh WTO Ministerial conference in Argentina, 2017. Furthermore, the meeting informed relevant sectors that the Trade Policy Review will be conducted by Lao PDR in 2019, which will evaluate its policies and commitments implementation as well as the impact on the multilateral trading system.
