Workshop on Guidebook and Curriculum on Laos Economic Integration into Global and Regional Economy and Workshop on LSP’s Dissemination took place on 15-16 March 2018, at Champasak Grand hotel, in Pakse Province. The event was co-chaired by Mr. Saysana Sayakone, Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade Policy, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Mr. Khampheng Sialoun, Deputy Director-General of Industry and Commerce Department, Pakse Province.

The overall objective of the workshop is to disseminate on economic integration into global and regional Economy of Lao PDR under World Trade Organization (WTO) framework, the establishment of Asean Economic Community (AEC) and other trade relations, through the instruction from Guidebook and Curriculum on Laos Economic Integration into Global and Regional Economy and to introduce concerned sectors on how to access lao services Portal (LSP), which is created to facilitate entrepreneurs and investors to access all laws, regulations and necessary information on investment and business operations in services sectors in Lao PDR. The primary purposes of this portal are to provide a significant contribution to the development of trade facilitation activities, especially trade in services in Lao PDR, to facilitate convenient access of transparent and up-to-date information through modern electronic system, and to implement Lao PDR’s commitments made under regional and international trade agreements, especially after Lao PDR’s accession to the WTO, in which Lao PDR has an obligation to implement the Article III of GATS on Transparency.

The representatives of concerned sectors from seven provinces of middle and southern parts, namely: Champasak, Xekong, Attapeu, Salavan, Savanhnakhet, Khammoun, bolikhamxay, more than 100 people actively attended to the said workshop.

During the workshop, the participants were fully involved in knowledge exchange, they raised various questions to discuss about economic integration and  how to access the essential information on trade through LSP in order to seek for the most effective and beneficial manner of the implementation. This workshop is also considered as a platform for the exchange of information between the government sector and businesses sector as well as between central level and local.
