Customs Department, Ministry of Finance, has official launched 02 electronic management systems for the tourist vehicles and freight forwarding service (D53) and for the fee collection on entry–exit of vehicles and passengers through the checkpoint (Smart VAT2) at Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge I in Vientiane Capital.
The launch ceremony was honored to participate by Mr. Somdy Daungdy, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of finance; Mr. Atsaphangthong Siphandone, Deputy Governor of Vientiane Capital; Mr. Somchit Inthamit, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce; Mr. Khammoun viphongxay, Deputy Minister of Home affairs; and relevant sectors.
Mr. Bounpaserd Sikunlabout, Acting General Director of Customs Department, Ministry of Finance stated that D53 and Smart VAT2 systems are considered as an initial step for customs sector to take advantage of modern technology on electronic system for fee collection and vehicle management at international border checkpoints throughout the country.
Customs sectors are considered as major source of incomes for the contribution to the state budget, which cover 30% of national incomes or 4.35% of GDP, including the import consumption tax covers 45%; import VAT covers 31%; tariff covers 16% of total revenue collection from customs duties in 2018
